• Meet Brandon

Brandon says he dreams of growing up to be a TV sports announcer. In the meantime, his goals are more concrete. “I dream about going back to Disney World,” he says.

Brandon was born more than four months prematurely, weighing just 1 pound, 13 ounces. He has cerebral palsy and hydrocephalus — a condition that occurs when too much fluid builds up in the brain. Over the years, he’s undergone nearly 30 surgeries. He has a surgically implanted shunt that helps drain excess fluid from his brain. He also receives physical and occupational therapy at Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare several times a week.

We love the Gillette team,” says Sheri, Brandon’s mother. “We’re so fortunate to have a team of specialists all working do what’s best for Brandon.”

Today, Brandon is a witty child who loves to make others laugh. He enjoys playing touch football with his friends, who help him catch the ball and score touchdowns. Because cerebral palsy and hydrocephalus can’t be cured, he will continue to need treatment from Gillette throughout his life.

Brandon and his family visited Disney World a few years ago, and the experience made an impression. “My first day there was the best day I’ve had in my whole life,” he remembers. “Everyone should get a chance to feel like that.”

“I’m no different than any other kid,” says Brandon. “I just have to face my fears, and keep doing what I know is good for me.”

Thanks to the care Brandon has received at Gillette throughout his life, he can enjoy the same things his friends do.
